Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire William Butler Yeats
The amount of talented people worldwide has never been counted, but it is certain that a good few talents never blossom. In as far as this is caused by a lack of means to pay for a proper education then those who have the means can obviously provide assistance. If it can be helped, then the development of talent should not be hindered; not only for the sake of the individual, but also for the benefit of society as a whole. For the impact of the education of one person goes beyond his development alone.
This being the profound conviction of Huibert Boumeester he decided to set up the ir. H.G. Boumeester Foundation, named after one of his ancestors. This foundation looks to support people in Asia and Africa who evidently possess talent but do not have sufficient or possibly any means to cover the costs of an education to develop it. Currently priority is given to applications that concern an education in the Netherlands or the UK in agriculture, forestry, water management, art or medicine. A vocational education in one of these fields in the Netherlands or the UK that holds out the prospect of independent practise of a profession in the student’s country of origin also qualifies for support.
The ir. H.G. Boumeester foundation, registered in the Netherlands, is governed by a Board of Trustees. The Trustees assess the applications for funding. In this they are guided by criteria that have been set after ample consideration.
The Trustees kindly request you to refrain from submitting applications till further notice.
